Digital C-Types, 12” x 16”
This series slowly evolved out of sketchbooks as a coherent set of individual 'masks'. Borrowing the compositional structure of actual Shamanic masks of the American Northwest, found the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. These were recontextualised as ritualistic objects with modern emblems of power: air travel, architecture, gambling, advertising. Influenced by a culture of conspiracy theories, technological phobias, hypochondria and other modern 'illnesses', these masks were the last part of the Escape Routes series.
